Maldives music and dance

Maldives is not just admired for its beauty but also it is known for its fabulous dances and music. When it comes to music and entertainment, this gorgeous island has so much to offer. The Maldives people are a friendly folk that has ancestral roots of Sri Lankan, African, Indian, Arab and Portuguese origins. The Maldivian culture is heavily influenced by these countries.
For example Bandiya jehun: the beating of metallic water pots to the tune of an accompanying song linked to Indian music and Boduberu: a form of Maldivian folk music  consisting of  drumming linked to Afrian tribal drumming rituals.
Types of cultural events  commemorating marriages or circumcision includes Bandiya jehun, Thaara, Langiri, Boduberu, Gaa Odi lava and Maafathi neshun.
